This past year at the Omaha World-Herald has been great. I’ve taken photographs of fashion, food, sports and news. Not only do I get to take pictures for a living, I also get to meet some amazing people along the way.

Carol Rogers, 59, left, visits her mother, Jeanne Rogers, 79, who has Alzheimer's, at the Douglas County Health Center on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013. Rogers said her mother had been the principal at Druid Hill Elementary School for 20 years. Rogers, an Omaha native who sang around the world for 25 years with Sergio Mendes, is back in Omaha to care for her mother, who has Alzheimer's. She has taken up the cause, especially in the African-American community. She is singing Monday night at the Ozone Lounge at Anthony's Restaurant. RYAN SODERLIN/THE WORLD-HERALD

Carol Rogers was one of those amazing people. She had a spirit full of gentle love. And it poured from her as she sat for a portrait with her mother, Jeanne, who has Alzheimer’s. I was lucky and blessed to have captured this moment.

I’ve been married for eight years. I can only hope that I can be married as long as Maurie and Marian Steier. Attending the renewal of their wedding vows was a great experience. I wanted to capture a moment that went beyond the standard ceremony pictures. I think this photograph does that. To me it shows the couple’s joy, faith and commitment.

Taylor Martinez was great to work with on this assignment. This portrait was pretty involved and it took a lot of time. I shot it over and over and over to get it right. He was patient and kind. Kudos to a big-time athlete taking the time to be nice to a photographer. This, because of Taylor, was one of my favorite shoots of the year. Good luck in the future Taylor.

Well, thanks for checking my pics out from the past year. I hope it goes well again in the coming year. Wish me luck and happy New Year to you, too.
