Week in Pictures: Anti-violence march, Sandhills road race

Close to 1,000 people march for unity and peace in north Omaha, car enthusiasts flock to the Sandhills for an open road challenge and the Iowa State Fair kicks off in the World-Herald Week in Pictures: Aug. 5-11, 2013.

Joseph Shannon Jr. gathers people for the start of Saturday’s march in north Omaha organized by Thrive Center Omaha. After the march, activities continued with a celebration in Fontenelle Park. The event, which drew about 1,000 marchers, brought together north Omaha residents who are weary of violence and at the same time proud of the unity and potential of their neighborhoods.
