Corner view of the house. Undated photo. THE WORLD-HERALD

This photo ran as “Brigham Young home in Florence – built in 1846.” The paper also ran another photo of the house in it’s 1929. A reader corrected the story in the Public Pulse a week later after the printing stating it was the Ross House at 7314 No. 31st St. It actually is the James C. Mitchell house, built in 1864 at 8314 N. 41st. Street and was the oldest house in Nebraska until it was razed in 1964. It always has been confused with the Mormon House, which burned down before this home was built.
This photo was from a January 25, 1916 World-Herald page titled “Brigham Young’s Home still stands at Florence.” The headlines, captions and borders were all hand-drawn.
Notice the tree growing through the porch.
